The United States Patent and Trademark Office (Patent and Trademark Office or US Patent Office) is an agency within the US Department of Commerce that offers trademark and patent protection to inventors and businesses for their corporate or product inventions/identifications.

Today the US Patent and Trademark Office is based in Alexandria, Virginia after a recent relocation from Arlington, Virginia.

Since 1991, the United States Patent Office has been wholly funded by trademark and patent fees for the patent process. The U S Patent Office receives thousands of patent applications each year for patent registration.
